Microsoft Word Course 1


Welcome to Microsoft Word Course 1.

Let’s start working together. First, you need to launch Microsoft Word. There are several ways to do this:

  1. If there is a Word iconMicrosoft Word Icon smallon your desktop, simply click on it.
  2. Click on the Start button (usually located at the bottom left of your screen), type “Word” in the search box, and click on the Word iconMicrosoft Word Icon small when it appears.
  3. Click on the Start button, then click on “All Programs”. Scroll down to the Microsoft Office folder, click on it, and select Microsoft Word from the list.

Click the blank document to go on your workspace; now use your keyboard to type your text.

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create, save and print a word document; you will also know everything in HOME TAB.

Before starting typing, you can save your document; to save it, press and hold Ctrl key and press S or you can click this iconSave on the Quick Access Toolbar. It will save by default as type word document (.docx), but you can change it in another type. You can easily create a PDF document, when you finish to type your text, save it as PDF document. Know that a PDF document can’t edit after saving.

Use your keyboard to type letters, numbers, and other characters to create your documents. Press the long key (the spacebar) to make space between words or numbers.

To type an uppercase letter, press and hold the Shift key, and then press the key that has the letter you want to type in uppercase. To type many letters or uppercase words, press Caps Lock and then type.

To continue typing in a new line (below), press Enter. You can press Enter two or more times, to create a larger space.

To type a letter or other symbol, simply press the key where it is on the keyboard, if it is alone on the key, or if it is at the bottom; but if there are two symbols on a key, to type what is at the top, hold down the Shift key, and then press the key with it.

To edit your text, you need to select it first. How to select it? There are several ways to select text.

You can select text using the mouse pointer or the keyboard.

To select a text using mouse pointer:

  1. To select a word, double-click it.
  2. To select a sentence, click 3 times quickly on a word in the sentence.
  3. To select a part of text, position the curser before the part, press and hold the left part of the mouse, slide the curser over the text to select.

To select a text using keyboard:

  1. Press an arrow to put the curser before or after the text to select, then press and hold Shift key and press an arrow to go to the other side of the text.
  2. To select all the document, press and hold Ctrl key and press A.

Word-Home-tab

Make text bold:

  • Using the mouse pointer: First select the text, then click B on the Home tab.
  • Using the keyboard: First select the text, hold down the Ctrl key and press B.

Italicize the text:

  • Using the mouse pointer: First select the text, then click I on the Home tab.
  • Using the keyboard: First select the text, hold down the Ctrl key and press I.

Underline a text:

  • Using the mouse pointer: First select the text, then click U on the Home tab.
  • Using the keyboard: First select the text, hold down the Ctrl key and press U.

Change the color of the text: Select the text first, on the Home tab, click the arrow in the font color boxFont-Color and click on the color you want, to choose it.

Change the font of the text:

  • Using the mouse pointer: Select the text first, in the Home tab, click the arrow in the font boxsize of the text, then click the font you want to choose.
  • Using the keyboard: Select the text first, press and hold Ctrl+Shift key then press F, then you can choose the font you want to use.

Change the size of text:

  • Using the mouse pointer: Select the text first, in the Home tab, click the arrow in Font Size box size of the text, click the number you want to choose or you can type any number.
  • Using the keyboard: Select the text first, press and hold Ctrl+Shift key then press P, then you can choose the Size you want to use.

Align the text to left:

  • Using the mouse pointer: Select the text first, in the Home tab, click Align Left Align text to left
  • Using the keyboard: Select the text first, press and hold Ctrl key and press L.

Center a text:

  • Using the mouse pointer: Select the text first, in the Home tab, click Center Align text to left
  • Using the keyboard: Select the text first, press and hold Ctrl key and press E.

Align the text to right:

  • Using the mouse pointer: Select the text first, in the Home tab, click Align Right Align text to left
  • Using the keyboard: Select the text first, press and hold Ctrl key and press R.

When you type text in some other languages such as: French, Spanish…, you will need other more characters, such as: à, á, é, å, ç, ñ, ï and other. Here are some keyboard combinations to do in order to have them:

How to Print Your Word Document:

If your document is not already open, open it. Then, while the document is open, press and hold the Ctrl key and press P or click Print Preview on the Quick Access Toolbar. This will display a table like the one below.

Before printing your document, make sure to modify the necessary settings by following these steps:

  1. In the “Copies” box, located under “Print,” click and type the number of copies you want to print.
  2. Under “Printer,” click the arrow to select the printer you want to use. If you don’t see your printer, you may need to install its driver on your computer.
  3. Under “Settings,” click the arrow to choose whether you want to print all pages of the document or only certain pages. If you want to print specific pages, type the page number(s) in the “Pages” box. You can also modify other settings as needed, such as orientation, paper size, and margins.
  4. Finally, click “Print” to print your document.
